Spectators to the Sinulog Grand Parade this Sunday, January 20, will be treated to a Las Vegas finale, said Sinulog Foundation, Inc. (SFI) executive director Ricky Ballesteros.
“Last year, the Sinulog grand finale was presented with a circus. This time, we will be presenting a new concept — Las Vegas,” Ballesteros said.
Ballesteros said the Sinulog this year would go international in terms of reaching out to its audience.
“We focus on reaching out to the international audience and we aim to project Sinulog as one of the biggest festivals in Asia, if not the world,” he said.
As SFI’s executive director for the past five years, Ballesteros said they always see to it that new ideas and concepts are introduced every year.
He said guests would be coming over from Las Vegas, Nevada and they will be joining the Sinulog grand parade on January 20. “They will have their own float,” said Ballesteros.
The SFI official said they would have wanted an international contingent but admitted it would be very difficult to bring in 60 to 100 international dancers. He added they are very strict in terms of guidelines.
Ballesteros said the group from Las Vegas would be the last float in the parade.
“They (Las Vegas group) will be the prelude to our Las Vegas finale,” he said.
He added: “There will be elements of surprise but the team from Las Vegas is only part of those surprises.”
Ballesteros said Cebu City first lady Margot Osmeña would lead the group of dancers participating in the Sinulog Grand Parade.
A grand fireworks display will then follow the finale presentation.
“This year, we will employ a monochromatic stage. The floor will radiate from dark blue to lighter and lighter,” the executive director added.
According to Ballesteros, SFI will employ more lights and special effects. “We will be using the most sophisticated lights in Cebu,” he stressed. (LRM/Sunnex)
