Hundreds of foreign guests arrive

HUNDREDS of tourists, mostly balikbayans from the United States, arrived at Mactan-Cebu International Airport yesterday.

Director Patria Aurora Roa of the Department of Tourism 7 said that because they extended assistance to the foreign guests who will attend the Sinulog festivities, there was smooth processing at the Bureau of Immigration for their travel documents, and the Bureau of Customs for to their baggage.


Cebu Provincial Board Member Agnes Magpale, head of the Tourism Commission, said that although the global crisis started from the US, the balikbayans still came here to witness the Sinulog grand parade.

Among those who arrived yesterday was Magpale’s high school classmate, Dr. Haidee Gutierez Herrera.

Alice Queblatin of the City Tour Group said that part of the 175 passengers that arrived at 8:30 a.m. yesterday are 50 members of the University of San Carlos (USC) Boys High School Batch 1959 wo will attend their golden anniversary reunion on Jan. 22 to 24.

Twenty-five members of the Philippine Bisayan Society of Nevada in Las Vegas, headed by their president, Marian Kimseng Pearson, also arrived.

Ching Williams of the Nevada team hails from Perrelos, Carcar. She said that this is the first time that she is back in Cebu after 25 years in the US.

Lawyer Nadia Jurani, also of the Nevada team, hails from Bogo City. She has been living in the US for 30 years already but she comes home to Cebu every year to attend the Sinulog celebration.

Ryan Manapat and Janice Hortelano Manapat with their two children also arrived from California and were welcomed by their relatives headed by Janice’s father, Dr. Sulpicio Hortelano of Tabogon, Cebu. (EOB/Sun.Star Cebu)
