No reports of injured persons; celebrations ‘peaceful’

NO reports of major injuries and accidents reached the Department of Health 7 during the Sinulog grand parade.

“Peaceful ra gyud kaayo ang celebrations,” said Department of Health (DOH) 7 Director Dr. Susana Madarieta.

Police also earlier reported that there were no cases of shooting, stabbing, mauling or gang violence that occurred during last Sunday’s 10-hour parade.

The health department said that they only received minor cases of injuries at their medical stations.
“We had medical stations around, as well as a medical station just outside the DOH 7 office. There were ambulances also on stand by just in case they needed to bring somebody to the hospital,” said Madarieta.

Precaution

The Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center staff was also on stand by to receive patients who needed treatment during the grand parade.

“It’s really a good thing that nothing happened last Sunday,” said Madarieta.

But she advised revelers and participants in the grand parade to still take the necessary precautions even days after the event.

“It is important to drink a lot of fluids, to recover from dehydration. Everybody has been walking and dancing. Even though if it was not that hot, the climate has been very humid, so they need to rest and to recover,” said Madarieta.

With the Sinulog grand parade route being 5.2 kilometers long and with the closure of major roads, both participants and spectators were forced to walk distances for the most of the day last Sunday. (EPB/Sun.Star Cebu)
