Sinulog for Haiti

RAIN did not stop pilgrims from going to the Sto. Niño Pilgrim Center for the Sinulog mass officiated by Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.

Minutes before the Pontifical Mass, as the rain continued to pour, the Basilica del Sto. Niño experienced a power outage, plunging the church in darkness.

Unfazed, the crowd stayed until power was restored.

Vidal dedicated the mass to the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

“Pit Señor sa Haiti kini!!” the crowd shouted.

The earthquake affected an estimated three million people, destroying lives and properties.

“Let us reach out to others, in particular those who have been afflicted by the natural disaster that happened, and only God knows why and what for. Let us pray for their recovery, those who are struggling to rebuild their lives now,” said Vidal.

Vidal reminded pilgrims to be aware of the needs and feelings of others and the consequences of their actions. He said not all disasters are natural disasters. Some are manmade too.

In his homily, Vidal said he was glad to see a big crowd despite the rain and cold weather. (more)
