Except for 2008, the Cordova District group has been a consistent Sinulog participant since 1995.
Choreographer Ronelio Bentulan said their dance this Sunday will carry the theme of faith and hope amidst the storm.
A total of 96 dancers, 30 drummers, 14 dancing propsmen and 30 backdrop propsmen will showcase the Dinagat Festival, in line with the means of livelihood of the people of Cordova, which is fishing.
Cordova is particularly proud of its 14-hectare marine sanctuary, which is both a tourist attration and the people’s main source of livelihood.
Bentulan outlined a story about a fisherman lost at sea during a storm. At first only the man’s boat is found, but the people never lose hope and pray to the Sto. Niño to help them find him. And eventually, he is found — alive.
Although the Cordova District has yet to win in the Grand Mardi Gras, they have nevertheless won in Sinulog sa Kabataan in the years 1995 (1st), 1997 (4th), 2002 (2nd), 2003 (5th), 2004 (1st), 2005 (2nd), 2006 (3rd), and 2007 (3rd).
