CEBU CITY — Expect much tighter security for Sunday’s Sinulog parade, now that President Benigno Aquino III has confirmed he will attend it.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama did not say what time President Aquino will arrive or whether he will also attend the religious celebration that draws thousands to the Basilica del Sto. Niño.
But Aquino’s presence, apart from the dancing contigents, will add color to the festivities, Rama said.
The Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) and the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) have isolated a route that will cause the least disruption to the parade and allow maximum security for the President.
Also on Friday, Rama reminded liquor and beer dealers that he has not issued any special permits for them to sell alcoholic drinks during the festivities.
Rama said he has received reports that beer is still being sold at the Fuente Osmeña rotunda and in Plaza Independencia, in violation of some ordinances.
“The law has not been suspended. Let this be a warning that the law has to be enforced. Kung madakpan mo (If you get caught), no one will be treated with special accommodations,” he said. (more)
