Give Basakanon time to reinvent itself: judge

CONSISTENT placers and crowd favorites in the Sinulog grand parade, the Lumad Basakanon of Barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City failed to wow both the judges and the hometown crowd last Sunday.

For the first time since joining the Sinulog free interpretation category some nine years ago, Basakanon failed to land among the top finishers.

However, Basakanon ranked third in the street dancing category.

The judges who have been in the panel for almost a decade now as well as Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) executive director Ricky Ballesteros expressed “sadness” and “disappointment” with Basa-kanon’s performance last Sunday, calling it “flat.”

Despite the prevailing sentiment, one judge expressed confidence that the group will redeem itself in the coming Sinulog celebrations.

Nestor Jardin, one of the judges, believes that Basakanon will regain their spot on the top. (more)
