Top officials to help secure parade route

TO support the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), eight senior officers have been designated “supervisors” for each sector of the Sinulog Grand Parade route.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos said that to help the CCPO, eight members of the PRO 7 command group will be out on the streets overseeing security operations surrounding the parade route.

Regional Intelligence Division Chief Ramon Melvin Buenafe also assured residents they will organize a covert security subtask group to coordinate all intelligence efforts for the festivities.

“We recognize the great responsibility that is on the shoulders of the CCPO,” Buenafe said.

Monitor

He said they will monitor threat groups that might mingle with local and foreign tourists in celebrating the Sinulog Festival.

Aside from criminal elements, the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army might also have plots to spoil the celebration.

Buenafe said Cebu has many entry points and there are lodging houses where members of threat groups can stay.

Prepared

He said they were prepared for the “worst scenario” because the Sinulog is one of the major activities in the Visayas area.

Chief Supt. Federico Terte, Senior Supt. Marcelo Garbo, Senior Supt. Vicente Loot, Supt. Anthony Obenza, Senior Supt. Leodegardo Acebedo, Senior Supt. Alexander Abadinas, Senior Supt. Eduardo Carranza and Senior Supt. Arturo Evangelista have been designated supervisors for each sector in the parade route.
Senior Supt. Louie Oppus will be in charge of the regional tactical operations center while Buenafe will supervise all intelligence operations.

Roderos will be the overall task force supervisor, supporting Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, who is
task force commander. (MEA/Sun.Star Cebu)
