Museum gets more toys, gifts

Costumes of Sinulog Festival Queens are showcased at “The Best of Cebu” Exhibit at SM City Cebu Northwing.

IN LINE with this year’s Sto. Niño fiesta celebration, the Basilica del Sto. Niño Museum is receiving more gifts and donations from Cebuano and foreign devotees alike.

The museum, which houses elaborately decorated and designed garments of the Sto. Niño, various jewelry and priceless manuscripts, showcases also several toys donated by children.

Maribel Emenido, the museum’s registrar, said they are receiving more toys this year compared to the previous years.

Emenido said, “Trend na gyud ni siya nga daghan every year kung i-kumpara sa mga miaging tuig pero makaingon ko ang mga gifts dili seasonal kay naa man gihapon mi’y gagmay nga ma-receive diri kada-adlaw.”

Prayers

Emenido believes that the many gifts and donations the museum receives manifest that many prayers had also been answered.

In previous years, Emenido said the museum have displayed about 500 toys.

Now, there are already over 700 of them, including cars and trucks in various sizes, planes, robots, stuffed toys and sandals.

Display

Emenido added that the toys, which are not included in the display, will be given to various orphanages in the city.

Devotees donate toys as their offering and thanksgiving to the Child Jesus for the blessings they receive from Him.

These do not come only from the children but also from the parents whose prayers of having a child have been answered. PDF
