2 groups ready

TWO out-of-town contingents have arrived ready to present their winning performances and colorful costumes for the Sinulog Grand Parade this Sunday.

The contingents from Lanao del Norte and Placer, Masbate City came with new concepts.

Minda Regis, Provincial Tourism officer of Lanao del Norte, said they will present through dance and chants the beauty of the co-existence of Christians and Muslims.

“Showing peace between Muslims and Christians and the culture of the province is what we are aiming to promote here during the Sinulog Festival,” said Regis.

The province’s tourism official said they will also showcase the Kahumayan Festival of Kapatagan, which has won the annual festival competition in the province.

The 180-strong contingent has been practicing for more than three months, said Regis.

Regis said that win or lose, they just hope to introduce the culture and diversity of their province through their presentation.

The group from Placer, Masbate, for their part, will present the theme of love and peace, said the contingent’s choreographer Barry Luche.

“We’ll be showing costumes with colors of gold, copper and bronze,” he said, adding that the outfits will have ornamental shells called the “tikab,” which is endemic in Placer.

With more that 100 dancers, 40 drummers and 36 dancing propsmen, Luche said their contingent is ready to give a better performance this year. (JKV/Sun.Star Cebu)
