‘Modest, Cebuano’ feast for cardinal’s reception

THE turnover of the office of the Archbishop of Cebu is considered the most significant event of the Catholic Church in recent memory.

After almost three decades, Cardinal Ricardo Vidal will give the reins of the country’s second largest archdiocese to his successor, Archbishop Jose Palma.

The event, prepared by a committee headed by Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Julito Cortes, will be celebrated in a modern-day ceremony that will reflect Cebuano culture.

The feast, in particular, will be “Cebuano and very modest,” said Ernesto Chua, co-chairman of the food committee.

The formal reception that will be held at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) will include members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, private individuals and government officials.

The presentation of the food that will be served to at least 600 guests was described as “ecclesiastical and bountiful.” (more)
