Cerge’s widow to honor hubby by joining fest

THE widow of the late press secretary Cerge Remonde hopes to continue her husband’s tradition of attending the annual foot procession for the Santo Niño on Jan. 16.

For Marit Stimus- Remonde, this year would be her first time to join the annual procession in honor of the Child Jesus.

She told Sun.Star Cebu she was not very devoted to the religious activities unlike her late husband who was always present for the last 27 years until before he died last year.

“I admit I never attended or even joined any of the religious activities, but for this year, I feel that I must,” said Marit.

Cerge, who died a week after the Sinulog 2010 festivities, was able to attend to the fluvial and foot procession. It was his “panata (vow)” to the Santo Niño every year.

Jan. 20 last year, Cerge died after suffering cardiac arrest inside his house in Bel Air, Makati City. He was 51 years old.

Marit said while she didn’t have any interest in the religious event, she promised Msgr. Cristobal Garcia, a friend of Cerge, that she will join the celebrations this year in honor of Cerge. (more)
