Fluvial parade off-limits to unregistered vessels

CEBU Coast Guard (CG) authorities will strictly enforce the ban on unregistered motor bancas in this year’s Sinulog fluvial parade for the safety and security of the participants.

“We are encouraging the participants to register their vessels or else they will be excluded from joining the fluvial parade,” said Commander Rolando Lizor Punzalan, Cebu CG station chief.

The Cebu CG has started accepting the registration of vessels and, initially, 12 had already registered as of last week.

The deadline of registration will be on Thursday at 10 a.m.

In previous fluvial processions, unregistered vessels gave the CG a headache until it eventually allowed them to participate by joining the tail end of the flotilla.

The CG will deploy sea marshals, rescue divers, medical teams on board patrol craft rubber boats and Navy vessels. (more)
