Force of 12,000 to secure Sinulog

CEBU CITY — To secure the public during the Sinulog, about 12,000 personnel from the police and military will be deployed.

Chief Supt. Ager Ontog, director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Central Visayas, said it will be quite a challenge for them to maintain peace and order in the festivities that are expected to attract two to three million spectators.

But he said they will do their best and asked the public to cooperate.

Starting today (Wednesday), at least 800 police personnel will be spread in Metro Cebu to conduct random checkpoints and impose the gun ban that will last until Jan. 21, Ontog said.

On Sunday, they will implement the city ordinance that does not allow liquor drinking and selling along the carousel route, said Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Melvin Ramon Buenafe.

Buenafe, who is the Sinulog task force commander, said he already talked with some fraternities that will join the festival and their leaders promised they won’t start any trouble. (more)
