Pajo, Carcar emerge as winners

PAJO Elementary School (ES) and Silaw Culture and Arts of Carcar Central National High School (NHS) won but did not take home the top prize in their categories last year.

In yesterday’s Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan, they made sure the honor did not go to the competition again.

Silaw choreographer Catherine Estenzo said she did not enjoy her Christmas vacation just so she could attend to the contingent.

The sacrifice paid huge dividends after the contingent bounced back from a fourth-place finish in 2008 to take first place this year.

Josefina Guillen, president of the Philippine Folk Dance Society and head of the board of judges, said Silaw was the runaway winner in the high school category. She is also the director for dance of the performing arts department of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. (more)
