UP student wins Miss Cebu

A MASS communication student of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu bagged the Miss Cebu crown last night, besting 12 others.

Asked by the judges how she would help in nation-building, 19-year-old Mia Zeeba Faridoon of UP said she can make a contribution by sticking to her values and sharing her knowledge.

The candidates had the chance to pose a challenge to each other: each wrote a question to be answered by any one of them during the semifinal round. From that round, judges picked the top five.

Based on how the contestants answered, Teffanie Lene Llamada and Vanessa Claudine Ammann gave the most challenging questions. Llamada was judged first runner-up while Ammann, who got the most cheers from the audience, got the second runner-up title.

Rosemary Gore was third runner-up.

At least two of the candidates found their fellow candidates’ questions too challenging or were just too nervous and could not utter a word during the first round of questions.

The audience had to egg on one candidate, who paused in midsentence while trying to answer whether she prefers happy endings to new beginnings. She finally said happy endings are better because having new beginnings meant the prior experiences had been failures. The question was written by Llamada, a registered nurse. (more)
